The Isotype movement was a huge influence to graphic design and the world itself. It was a pictorial language that was originally intended to help public understanding of social issues related to housing, health and economics after WWI. The Isotype is still in full swing, and being used in many more places than it was originally. The use of design for information was also a very important time in design. Designs for information greatly exhibited the powers of graphic design in simplification. The school at ULM evolved with scientific and methodological approaches to problem solving with design through the means of signs and symbols. The beginning of Swiss design pushed designers to become conduits delivering information with clarity and relevancy.
